My Story My Goal

Recently I get asked the question "Why did you choose to become a therapist?" Truthfully, It took me a long time to decide that this is what I wanted to do. Growing up, no one in my family would talk about therapy or mental health. This is due to my background, I come from a Hispanic family. When you heard therapy my family would say that someone was "crazy" for needing it. There was no such thing as Depression it was just "Ah, you're just sad, get over it" or "Be grateful, you have it better than others out there. Don't complain!" This was hard to hear and can cause us to bottle up all these emotions and feelings. Now, as an adult, I realized that its okay to feel these emotions and that talking to someone can be healthy and normal. I aim to bring awareness and encourage others to fight against mental health stigma and help provide mental health support and care to my community.
